Council of Deacons Candidates
RE: NOMINATING COMMITTEE REPORT, 2007
SUBMITTED BY: YUKIO HAMADA The members of the 2007 Nominating Committee are: Yukio Hamada, Chair; Don Hardaway, Michael, Mike May, Mary Osorio, Tim Sprowls. It was the unanimous decision of the committee to ask Pulelehua Ruth Marie Quirk to consider serving one more term and she accepted. It was the unanimous decision of the committee to ask Bob Joseph to serve one more term but it was discovered in mid-December that he had served his maximum limit and withdrew his name. Laura Sprowls agreed to be a nominee for the position of Congregational Secretary. The original intent of the committee was to have a slate of at least five candidates for the three Council of Deacons vacancies. Seventeen people were contacted and six accepted. However, because of various situations, three candidates requested to be removed from consideration, leaving the committee with three candidates. It was decided in the December meeting that we would proceed with the slate of three candidates for the three positions. When it was discovered that Laura Sprowls would run as Congregational Secretary, that necessitated finding a fourth nominee to fill the two-year position vacated by Laura. The nominees are listed below. A slate of four nominees for the four positions for the 2008 Nominating Committee is listed below. It was decided that nominees for delegates to the Pacifica Synod Assembly in May would be selected by the new Council of Deacons; however, if it is the wish of the Congregation to select the delegates in the Congregational Meeting, it should be raised as an item of business on the agenda.
